Welcome and FYI

Welcome. *waves 'hello'* I am delighted that you have decided to visit my journal, for a while. I hope that you enjoy your time here.

For Your Information (FYI):

-This journal and my Live Journal ( http://1geek-queen.livejournal.com/ ) were back up blogs for my Greatest Journal ( http://geek-queen.greatestjournal.com/ ). Greatest Journal is now defunct, so my IJ and LJ will just back each other up. (At IJ, my member name is geek_queen. That handle was taken at LJ, so I'm 1geek_queen on LJ.)

-Entries with "Former Post" in the title are older entries from my Greatest Journal. (They also have 'gj post' as one of their tags.)

-I do post spoilers, at various times. Spoilers will be behind LJ-cuts.

Yay, More Flashpoint!

TV FYI: Tonight, October 18th, Flashpoint comes to ION (in the US)! A new episode airs at 10 pm EST followed by another episode at 11 pm. Both episodes will repeat later on in the night at 1 am and 2 am, and will repeat this Saturday at 9 and 10 pm/1 and 2 am. Also, if you're lucky enough to have ION West, you can catch the Flashpoint eps even later, if you'd rather do that.

ION can be found on antenna TV, cable, and satellite. With DirecTV, ION East is channel 305 and ION West is channel 347. At least they are on my channel line-up. Their website has a "Find ION" search box if you need help finding the channel in your area.

To find out more info about the wonderful show that is Flashpoint, check out the producers Facebook page: Flashpoint Team One.

Flashpoint is a great show, with an awesome cast. Seriously, the ENTIRE cast has amazing chemistry together and they're terrific actors. You don't believe me? Go watch the series and find out for yourself. You can thank me later. lol

30 Day TV Show Meme

I am SO behind on this meme, I'm just going to go ahead and post the rest of the questions/answers. I'm now up to #5.

05 - A show you hate:

There are genres I like a lot less than other genres and shows I'm not crazy about, but I can't recall, right now, one I absolutely hate.

Day 06 - Fave episode of your favorite show:

My favorite episode of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" is either 'Space Mutiny' (season 8, episode 20) or 'The Girl in Lover's Lane' (season 5, episode 9).

Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your fave show:

That would have to be 'Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders' (season 10, episode 3).

Day 08 - A show everyone should watch:

Haven't we already covered this question? *cough*question number 2*cough* Oh well, I'll answer it, again (with more than one answer). "Human Target", "Flashpoint", "NCIS", "White Collar", "The Mentalist", etc.

Day 09 - Best scene ever:

Goodness, I don't know. There are so many! I can't decide.

Day 10 - A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving:

"Glee." I didn't expect the show to have so much heart. And, yes, I now have a crush on Matthew Morrison (Mr. Shue).

Day 11 - A show that disappointed you:

I can't think of one, right now.

Day 12 - An episode you've watched more than 5 times:

"White Collar"  'Pilot"
"NCIS"  'Twisted Sister'; 'SWAK'; 'Escaped'; etc...

Day 13 - Fave childhood show:

Tie between "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (the 80s cartoon) and "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?"

Day 14 - Fave male character:

Arthur 'The Fonz" Fonzarelli ("Happy Days"), H.M. Murdock ("The A-Team"), Special Agent Peter Burke ("White Collar"), Kermit (Muppet), etc...

Day 15 - Fave female character:

Ziva David and Abby Scuito ("NCIS"), Miss Piggy (Muppet), Diana Barrigan and Elizabeth Burke ("White Collar"), etc...

Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show:

Most of them would fall under this category, probably.

Day 17 - Fave mini-series:

So far, "Band Of Brothers".

Day 18 - Fave title sequence:

"Human Target" (among the newer shows)

Day 19 - Best cast:

Tie between "NCIS" and "White Collar"

Day 20 - Fave kiss:

Honestly, I don't know.

Day 21 - Fave ship (as in relationship):

Elizabeth Burke/Peter Burke ("White Collar")

Day 22 - Fave series finale:

Currently, it's Flashpoint's third(?) season finale, "Acceptable Risk". I think it's the third season finale; CTV (Canada) and CBS (US) have different season line-ups.

Day 23 - Most annoying character:

Officer Dewey from "Southland"

Day 24 - Best quote:

There's so many, I can't decide. o_O

Day 25 - A show you're planning to watch:

"Hawaii 5-0" (the new series and more of the old "Hawaii 5-0"). Unfortunately, "Castle" and H50 air opposite each other, so I'm going to have to catch H50 online. (I hope CBS counts those ratings.)

"Sherlock," a very short British series dealing with, who else, Sherlock Holmes, will air on PBS (on "Masterpiece Mystery!") this October. It will be weird seeing an edgier, more modern version of Sherlock Holmes. Hopefully, that won't turn me off of the show.

Day 26 - OMG WTH? season finale:

This spot definitely goes to the finale of the US-version of "Life On Mars". The series was pretty good, but was canceled after one season. The finale, though, was odd. O-d-d.

Day 27 - Best pilot episode:

"White Collar"

Day 28 - First TV obsession:

"The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (I think)

Day 29 - Current TV obsession:

Hmm, probably "White Collar" and "NCIS"

Day 30 - Saddest character death:

Edited to remove spoiler because Insane Journal won't let me do a LJ cut right. :(

30 Day TV Show Meme

Day 04 - Your favorite show ever:

My favorite TV show of all-time is "Mystery Science Theater 3000." ("NCIS" is in a close second.)

30 Day TV Show Meme

Day 03 - Your favorite new TV show (aired this season):

I'm guessing the question meant the fall-spring television season and not what we're in now, the summer season. I'm going to go ahead and put both down, anyway. (These are my meme answers, so why the heck not?)

Favorite new TV show during the fall '09-spring '10 season --> "White Collar"
Favorite new TV show during the summer '10 season --> tie between "Rizzoli & Isles" and "Scoundrels" ("Rookie Blue" deserves honorable mention)

30 Day TV Show Meme

Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching:

Again, I can't choose only one show.

"Flashpoint" - This series has: a wonderful cast with great chemistry; moving and thought-provoking stories; and cool action sequences.

"Human Target" - It's a fun action/adventure series with a great cast. Chance, Winston, and Guerrero save the clients with just the right amount of brains, brawn, and snark.

30 Day TV Show Meme

Day 01: A show that should've never been canceled.

There's so many, it'll be hard to narrow the answer down to just one show. I'll list two.

"Mystery Science Theater 3000" - Since MST3k is on top of my 'favorite TV programs' list, of course, I wish it hadn't been canceled from both Comedy Central and SyFy (Sci-Fi). Both networks, in my opinion, were crazy to drop the show, especially since MST3k was still very popular. (And still is today.)

"FlashForward" - From day one, my family and I enjoyed this series. It was fresh, interesting, clever, beautiful, had a great cast, kept you guessing, etc. I wonder if the main reason "FlashForward" lost so many viewers was due to the big break in its first (and, sadly, only) season (from December 3rd to March 18th)? Who knows, nowadays?

Doctor Who and Cartoons

I'm glad Cartoon Network is continuing with Ben 10. I became a fan of the cartoon a few months ago, so I'm fairly late to the party. I missed the majority of the first series ("Ben 10") and a good chunk of the second series ("Ben 10: Alien Force"). Hopefully, I can catch all of the current series, "Ben 10: Ultimate Alien," without too much fuss. (Thank goodness for multiple airings.)

Another Cartoon Network program I'm enjoying is "Generator Rex". I like the mystery, the humor, the sarcastic talking monkey named Bobo. Yes, Bobo. *grins* I also find it amusing that they have a character called 'Dr. Holiday' (Doc Holiday). And Agent Six reminds me a lot of Agent K from "The Men In Black" movies/cartoon series. (I miss that cartoon.) Van Kleiss, the bad guy in episode one, had an Orochimaru ("Naruto") vibe to him. o_O Hey, Orochimaru, we found your long lost brother.

"Doctor Who" (new season currently in the US on BBC America, Saturdays at 9 pm, 12 am, and 3 am EST)

Whenever they need to change Doctors (aka actors), it's sad to see the previous actor leave but interesting to see what the new actor brings to the adventure. Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor, is a great addition to the show. Karen Gillian is, too. She plays the 11th Doctor's companion, Amy Pond. Welcome aboard the Tardis you two.

Who's my favorite Doctor? Honestly, I don't know. It's tough to choose just one. So far, it's a four-way tie between numbers 2, 5, 9 and 10. Nine is especially special since he's the Doctor that introduced me to the show and made me a fan. Unfortunately, I have not seen all of the Doctors, yet, and some I've only seen a small amount of episodes. Hopefully, I can change that, at some point. The hardest one to catch will most likely be the 8th Doctor (McGann). Does anyone know whether the 1996 movie with Paul McGann is on or will be on DVD?

Clones and Reimagined Series

Due to real life issues that I won't go into, I missed out on rambling about the new fall television season. Oh, well, the new spring shows are here and the summer shows are not far away. And, with the way time flies, it'll be fall, again, before you know it. o_O

"Happy Town" Wednesdays at 10 pm (EST) on ABC

I wasn't going to watch the "Happy Town" pilot. The premise sounded similar to CBS's "Harper's Island", which I didn't like due to the series' pilot being too much like a horror movie. (I hate horror movies.) But like "Harper's Island", "Happy Town" lured me with certain actors into checking out the pilot . (With "Happy Town", it was Sam Neill-- Dr. Alan Grant from the "Jurassic Park" movies. *grins*) The pilot ended up feeling more like "Twin Peaks". All that's missing is a FBI Agent with a penchant for pie and coffee and the Log Lady. Who killed Lara Palmer? I'm guessing it's The Magic Man.

The jury's still out on how well we like the series. The show airs opposite "CSI: NY", and new episodes start next week, so if we watch any more HT, it will be after CSI: NY's new episodes end.

"Miami Medical" Fridays at 10 pm (EST) on CBS

I like "Miami Medical". However, the series feels and looks like "CSI: Miami" set in a hospital. Seriously. The coloration, the Miami outside shots, etc. Even the commercials are similar. If Horatio Caine wondered in the hospital, posing with his ever present sunglasses, I would not be surprised. Perhaps this is intentional? Maybe there will be a crossover between the two series at a later date? Maybe it's just because they share an executive producer? I don't know. Hmm, a crossover wouldn't be that bad of an idea, really. (Any excuse to look at Ryan (Jonathan Togo). *swoon*)

There is even a smidgen of "Scrubs" in "Miami Medical". Tell me if you don't see a little of Dr. Chris Turk ("Scrubs") in Tuck Brody, RN ("Miami Medical"). And Dr. Serena Warren reminds me a wee bit of a non-crazy Dr. Elliot Reid.

"Stargate Universe" Fridays at 9 pm & 11 pm (EST) on SyFy

Stargate reimagined = sci-fi soap opera with gate travel

"Stargate Universe" is interesting and a bit dull at the same time. I think it's because the crew spends the majority of their time on Destiny. There is only so much you can do on a runaway spaceship with limited supplies. In addition, it doesn't help that I only care about four of the characters-- Eli, Young, Rush, and TJ.

And, yes, I'm still pissed with whomever canceled "Stargate Atlantis". Why couldn't SGA and SGU air side by side? *grumbles*

To Eat Or Not To Eat. Sadly, That's the Question These Days.

While I know what Washington D.C. means when they say "anti-obesity campaign," I still envision people hunting me down, handcuffing me and forcing me to work off my weight whenever I hear that phrase. Plump people already get a bad rap. Now, we have to hear about how obesity is ruining the world. I want the nation/world to be healthier, but I don't want to feel even worse that I'm overweight.

I'm going to grab some junk food and hide out in the Fat Cave, uh, I mean, the Bat Cave. (Or the Fortress of Solid-itude.) You know the X-Men? Well, I'm part of the 3X-Men.

I Feel the Earth Move Under My Feet

Today (Sunday), around noon, we had an earthquake! o_O I was sitting in the kitchen watching TV when I thought I heard thunder or a large truck passing by. The noise sounded as if it started in the front yard then (sort of) went towards the backyard. While the house did shake, I wasn't sure what the heck happened since there was a thunder-like sound first. My initial thought was "was that a sonic boom?" I figured a plane could have made the noise and caused the house to shake, but I doubted the planes would've flown low enough around here. Who knows, though? *shrugs* After that, I kept going back and forth between sonic boom and earthquake until I overheard a newscast. Apparently, the earthquake was strong enough to be felt in multiple counties. Whoa. I don't think anyone was hurt (thank goodness).

I hope you all had a very happy, and safe, Halloween. Mine was quiet, but nice. I spent the day enjoying the "NCIS" marathon on the USA Network and the "Ghost Hunters" marathon (and live event) on Syfy. (Oh, and I got to see an old "Yu-Gi-Oh!" episode, too! *g*) Both marathons were great! Even the parental units had fun watching part of the mixture of marathons with me.

When I first heard that this year's "Ghost Hunters" Halloween special was going to be the scariest episodes with some live introductions, I was a bit worried that it was just going to be a 'Best Of' type event. Luckily, it was more than that. Besides the top viewer voted episodes, we got to see the TAPS gang answer questions, see the newbies that will be on "Ghost Hunters Academy" and a clip of GHA, see Steve and Tango investigate part of an old hospital(?), etc. They even had a lot of interactive fun for fans online. Unfortunately, I didn't attempt the online activities, since I figured my ancient computer would go all mental on me. Oh well, maybe next time.

"Monk", "White Collar" and "Three Rivers" were all really good today. :D Although...

Don't Ditch the Discs

After reading this Yahoo Tech blog entry, written by Christopher Null, I'm a little concerned about what Netflix may be planning for its future and what its future with me might entail. If Netflix does indeed, at some point, discontinue having DVDs as a viewing option, I may be in a bind. For both ways you can watch streaming video from Netflix is next to impossible for me and my family, right now. The computer I have to use is my mother's ancient PC, which doesn't have the right requirements for streaming content from Netflix. (Our other computer tower doesn't have a working modem.) Besides, with dial-up, it would probably take all day to even download/watch the content. (I know YouTube takes longer to download than it should on my PC.) An Internet-ready television set would be cool, if it wasn't such a big purchase, for us. Neither I nor my family can afford to buy a new computer, Internet service, and/or an Internet-ready TV w/ a special box, currently. I hope we have better financial fortune before Netflix decides to ditch the discs. I would hate to be forced to give up Netflix.

I would hate to see DVDs fall by the wayside, anyway, even if I did have more modern computers/TVs/etc. Like books, there's just something about holding them in your hands, seeing them proudly organized (or haphazardly strewn about) on a shelf. :D

And Now For Something Completely Different

Back in 1999 or 2000, we had a problem with our computer speakers occasionally picking up either cell phone or CB radio signals. Now, we have a new problem with speakers. This time, the speakers on the livingroom TV have been occasionally picking up what sounds most like a CB radio. o_O We have two satellite dishes-- one large one that we don't use anymore and our DirecTV dish. Our theory is that that dish (or dishes) is somehow bouncing the cell/CB signals to that TV. <_< Technology is weird.

Unfortunately, that CB/cell stuff can get pretty loud. And I mean LOUD! Last night, before 7 pm, I was watching a DVD and the CB stuff came in, quickly getting louder and louder. I tried to lower the volume but I had to use both hands/arms to cover my ears. Thank goodness I was NOT sitting closer to the television set! If I had, I would've been deaf for sure. (Or had some serious hearing damage.) =P

I've been catching up with "Scrubs", lately. Thanks to Netflix, I am now finished with seasons six and seven, and I'm working on season eight (two more discs to go). Their musical episode, 'My Musical', may just be their best ep ever! :D

"NCIS", "NCIS: Los Angeles", and "The Forgotten" were very good Tuesday night. The last couple of scenes toward the end of "The Forgotten" almost made me cry, it was that good! "Eyes" was good, although it would've been better with less Jeff.

Happy Couch Potato

"Three Rivers" episode 'Place of Life'

Both mom and I really enjoyed the "Three Rivers" pilot. The cast is terrific, both individually and as a whole. Seriously. The casting director deserves a pat on the back and a huge chocolate chip cookie! Plus, it was great seeing the woman who played Deanna Troi on "Star Trek Next Generation" as a guest star. :D I look forward to seeing more of this series.

"Cold Case" episode 'Hood Rats'

While it was neat to see Scotty's folks (that's the first time I remember seeing them), I'm not all that crazy about Scotty anymore. I still like the character okay, just not as much as before. I especially got tired of his storyline last season with the crazy chick. =P

My favorite scene: Nick on a skateboard. *g*

"Heroes"

So far, I really like the new characters. I especially love Samuel Sullivan! He's just the right amount of mysterious, cool, handsome, and dangerous. In fact, seeing his character in the new season promos helped me to decide whether to watch "Heroes" or "House" Mondays at 8 pm. (The shows air opposite each other.)

I love that "Heroes" is exciting, again. \o/

"Trauma"

I still can't decide how I feel about "Trauma". I like the show okay, but some of the characters can get pretty annoying, at times (like Rabbit). My favorite thing about the series, so far, is that Jamey Sheridan is one of the stars. (I miss him on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent".)

"Castle"

Mom and I continue to adore this series. I am SO glad ABC decided to renew the series for a second season. \o/ I hope we get a third season... and a fourth... fifth... and so on.

Party Like It's Fall 2009

TV FYI: The second season of "Sanctuary" begins this Friday at 10 pm (and midnight) on Syfy. The second season of "Southland" starts on October 23rd at 9 pm on NBC. The USA Network debuts its new series, "White Collar", also on October 23rd, at 10 pm (and 1 am). TNT's new series, "Men of a Certain Age", debuts in December. (Note: "Men of a Certain Age" is rated TV-MA, I think. The others are more than likely rated TV-14.)

Ah, another bunch of television series have bloomed for the fall season. I love walking around the garden, seeing what's a rose and what's just a weed. Some of the blossoms have already been pruned, like "Beautiful Life". The rest are trying to avoid an early frost. *stops to smell the roses*

New Shows I Like:

"Flash Forward" (Thursdays on ABC)
"Three Rivers" (Sundays on CBS)
"Eyes" (Tuesdays on DirecTV's 'The 101' channel)
"NCIS: Los Angeles" (Tuesdays on CBS)
"The Forgotten" (Tuesdays on ABC)
"The Good Wife" (Tuesdays on CBS)

New Shows I'm Not Quite Sure About:

"Trauma" (Mondays on NBC)
"Hank" (Wednesdays on ABC)
"Stargate Universe" (Fridays on Syfy)

New Shows I've Stopped Watching:

"Mercy" (Wednesdays on NBC)

Feliz Cumpleanos!

Happy Birthday, Sherry! I hope it's a great one. *hugs*

Who knows how often it will get updated, but... I now have a Facebook page. Slowly, I am moving forward in this digital world. I'm only decades behind everyone else. *facepalm*

I had a lot to babble on about, but I've run out of time this morning. That's going to have to wait until later.

Happy Birthday!

Today is my brother's birthday. :D Happy Birthday, G! I hope your special day is filled with awesomeness. Love you!

Guess which "NCIS" star has a birthday today. If you guessed 'Mark Harmon', than you're right. Happy Birthday to you, too, Mr. Harmon!

My Name Is Queen. Geek Queen.

The USA Network has been showing various James Bond movies throughout the month. I've caught a few minutes, here and there, but I think that I'll just rent the movies someday. That way I can see the movies without commercials/edits. I want my first whole James Bond movie to be one where Roger Moore played Bond. :D
